Father leaves infant son with stranger

The father of an infant has been arrested after police say he took his son from the boy’s mother and then left him with a woman he’d never met while he tried to flee.

Greeley police say Alvin Padilla confronted the boy’s mother on Monday over custody of their son. Police say Padilla struck the mother and then got into his car and drove off with the boy.

Police say Padilla left the child with a woman he didn’t know and told her the police were after him. Authorities say he returned to retrieve the child while officers were investigating.

Padilla is facing charges of child abuse, harassment and violation of a restraining order.
