Adams County puts kink in natural gas pipeline

Adams County commissioners have rejected a proposed route for a 435-mile, natural gas pipeline, citing concerns that it could interfere with development plans in the county east of Denver.

Planning director Abel Montoya said the county is one of the fastest-growing areas in the United States.

Commissioner Chaz Tedesco says the county “desperately” needs economic development.

The Front Range Pipeline is designed to move natural gas liquids to Texas from Weld County. Pipeline project spokesman Rick Rainey tells the Denver Post that all options are on the table, including diverting the route around the county or resubmitting plans.

The project has the blessing of three other Colorado counties, including Weld, Elbert and El Paso. Arapahoe County’s commissioners are scheduled to vote Aug. 13 after the staff recommended approval.
