Corrections department checked violent predator

The Colorado Department of Corrections says it checked on a sexually violent predator who violated his parole two weeks before he disappeared.

Nick Medina disappeared from his Lakewood motel room after removing his GPS tracking monitor on the morning of June 30.

According to KMGH-TV, authorities decided Medina violated his parole on June 17 when parole officers confiscated materials from his Lakewood residence, including a cellphone that had inappropriate content.

Corrections spokeswoman Alison Morgan says it was a first-time offense that did not rise to the level of having Medina’s parole revoked.
