Teen fighting extradition in grandmother’s death

A 19-year-old Montana man arrested in Colorado on suspicion of killing his great-grandmother is fighting extradition.

Yellowstone County Attorney Scott Twito said Wednesday that Robert Alan Thompson of Billings refused to waive extradition during a hearing in Colorado earlier this week.

Thompson was arrested in Denver on Saturday on suspicion of deliberate homicide in the July 19 death of 77-year-old Shirley Lawrence.

Court documents filed this week indicate Thompson told investigators he was talking with Lawrence about him getting a job and became angry when she told him he was going to turn out just like his father.

Twito said he wrote to Gov. Steve Bullock asking for a governor’s warrant, which would petition Colorado’s governor to return Thompson to Montana.

Thompson’s next court hearing is set for Aug. 5.
