Morse, Giron face setbacks in recall challenges
The Secretary of State’s Office says a petition to recall Sen. John Morse is sufficient.
The more than six-page decision was handed down by Deputy Secretary of State Suzanne Staiert late Wednesday.
In a news release, the Secretary of State’s Office say that barring any additional challenges to the petition, the final certificate of sufficiency will be forwarded to Gov. John Hickenlooper’s office. Hickenlooper is responsible for setting a date for the recall election.
Morse, a Democrat from Colorado Springs who also serves as president of the Colorado Senate, is facing recall for supporting a package of gun control laws that was signed into law earlier this year.
Sen. Angela Giron, a Democrat from Pueblo, is also facing the possibility of being recalled because she supported the gun control laws.
On Wednesday, Giron lost her effort to have the Republican secretary of state’s office recused from hearing her recall challenge.
