Reporter: Colo shooting subpoena causing hardship

Attorneys for Fox News reporter Jana Winter say her career and personal life are suffering severe hardships because of attempts to force her to reveal her sources for a story about Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes.

The lawyers filed a motion Tuesday asking the judge to quash a subpoena for Winter’s testimony. They say Holmes’ lawyers haven’t shown the testimony is necessary despite months of trying.

Holmes is charged with killing 12 and injuring 70 in a theater in July.

Winter reported Holmes sent a psychiatrist a notebook containing violent drawings. She cited unnamed law-enforcement officials.

Holmes’ lawyers say the leak violated a gag order. They also say law-enforcement officers might have lied when they testified they weren’t Winter’s source, undermining their credibility if they testify at the trial.
