Waldo victims help Black Forest community

Waldo Canyon fire victims are helping people from the Black Forest fire take the first steps toward recovery. Colorado Springs Together set up the new mentor program.

Bob Cutter with Colorado Springs Together said victims and volunteers can go to the group’s website to sign up, and next week people will people will be matched. Volunteers have a specific goal in mind.

“Wanting to work with them through insurance claims. Wanting to work with them emotionally. Preparing them for what is going to be a marathon race, not a sprint,” said Cutter.

Colorado Springs Together is helping El Paso County and victims with its expertise, but the majority of its efforts will remain with the Mountain Shadows recovery. El Paso County is already working on it’s on version of a recovery office in Black Forest.
