Man dies after trying to remove stumps in Aurora

Police say one man has died after an accident while trying to remove tree stumps in Aurora, and another is injured.

Police say a man was using a tow strap connected to a vehicle to pull stumps from the front of a house Monday when the strap disconnected from the stump. The tow strap’s hook shot through the vehicle’s rear window and struck the driver in the back of the head. The vehicle then traveled across the street onto a front porch, striking an elderly man who was sitting there.

Police say the driver was pronounced dead at a hospital. The man on the porch was taken to a hospital but is expected to survive.

Police say they don’t expect to pursue charges.
