Family who loses home in Black Forest Fire is reunited with their dogs

Evacuated animals are being reunited with their owners every day. Already, more than one hundred furry evacuees have gotten picked up by their owners.

KRDO cameras caught Thomas Condass and his family picking up their three dogs after spending several nights at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.

“I can’t tell who was happier … us or them,” said Condass.

Condass said his parents home of many years was lost in the Black Forest Fire and they almost didn’t get this happy reunion with their dogs.

“My dad had to argue his way into the evacuation zone to get our three dogs,” said Condass.

Once they were safe and sound, finding a spot for Beaumont, Swatch and Duchess wasn’t easy, he said. Condass said his dad kept calling and calling and eventually was able to bring them to HSPPR.

“We’re trying to make them as comfortable and as happy as possible here,” said Gretchen Pressley, spokesperson for HSPPR.

HSPPR is still carrying for about 150 animals at there Abbot Lane Location, about 40 at the Palmer Ridge High School shelter and just over 600 at the El Paso County Fairgrounds.

No additional volunteers or resources are needed at this time, but monetary donations to aid in animal rescue efforts can be made online.

Condass says his family is lucky they have a rental house that is empty right now. That is where they will live temporarily.
