Kansas jail limits toilet paper to cut costs

A Kansas jail limited the toilet paper use for its inmates to one roll per week.

It was a tactic to save money since the sheriff of Sedgewick County said they spend $100,000 per year on toilet paper alone.

They said much of the toilet paper is wasted anyway. Many inmates just got it wet and stuck it on walls or ceilings and evening intentionally plugged up toilets.

Some inmates aren’t happy about the new policy.

“What if you have to use the bathroom and you run out of toilet paper?” said Michael Davis, an inmate. “What do you do then? You supposed to walk around with feces on you? That ain’t sanitary.”

Inmates have to wait for the next week’s supply of toilet paper or buy one for a dollar if they use their allotted roll.

The sheriff expects this policy to cut the toilet paper bill in half.
