Defense report: Post-bin Laden raid security lapse

A draft report by Pentagon investigators says that several weeks after Leon Panetta oversaw the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden, the then-CIA director revealed the name of the raid commander in a speech attended by the writer of the film “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Panetta later served as defense secretary and is now retired.

The report did not say whether Panetta knew the writer was in his audience; if his disclosure was inadvertent then it’s not clear that he violated security rules.

The unpublished report was first disclosed by the Project on Government Oversight and was confirmed Wednesday by Rep. Peter King.

The New York Republican said he was briefed on the draft report. He said it confirmed his suspicion that the Obama administration cut corners on security in its dealings with Hollywood executives.
