Arrests made in Widefield shooting, vandalism cases

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has announced arrests in a series of Security-Widefield area crimes.

The Sheriff’s Office says that between March 26 and April 25, it received five reports of vandalism near Mesa Ridge Parkway and Wayfarer Drive.

In each case, someone fired several rounds at street signs, construction equipment, and other property, causing damage.

Then, in the early morning hours of May 12, deputies received a report of shots being fired in the area of Saberwood Drive and Woodstock Street.

Deputies say there was a party in the 6800 block of Woodstock Street, and some party-goers fired rounds from their vehicle while leaving the party.

Numerous shell casings were found in the area. No one was hurt, but some neighbors woke up to find bullet holes in their cars.

The Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Tyson Dunckel and another unidentified 19-year-old have been linked to the vandalism cases, and may have been involved in the shooting on Woodstock Street.

A total of four people have been linked to the shooting on Woodstock. Besides Dunckel and the unidentified 19-year-old, deputies say another unidentified person, and 19-year-old Justin Estes may have been involved.

Dunckel is being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on $500,000 bond. He’s facing charges of criminal mischief, illegal discharge of a firearm, first degree criminal trespass, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and prohibited use of a weapon.

Estes has been served a summons and complaint for reckless endangerment
Five firearms have been recovered during the investigation, one of which was stolen.

The two unidentified suspects have not been charged with any crimes yet.
