Investigators say mortuary fire was arson

Investigators are searching for an arsonist who set a fire that destroyed a Longmont mortuary.

Longmont police said Thursday they had ruled out accidental causes and believe the Tuesday fire that burned the Howe Mortuary was started intentionally.

The Longmont Times-Call reports investigators say the fire started in a dumpster behind the building.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from the time of the fire and are looking for links to previous dumpster fires.

Investigators are also looking for connections between the Howe Mortuary fire and a fire that started behind the Times-Call newspaper building Wednesday afternoon. In that case, someone stuffed a rolled-up shirt into a newspaper box and set it ablaze.

The Boulder County Coroner said that seven bodies had been recovered from the mortuary. All the bodies have been identified, but names are not being released.
