AFA grads grateful on graduation day
Air Force leaders asked the class of 2013 to take responsibility moving forward as they enter a new world post-graduation.
The class of 2013 went through a H1N1 outbreak during their first summer. There were 134 confirmed cases and many students had to go into quarantine to stop the spread of the virus in 2009.
It was just one of many challenges to come before being able to celebrate Wednesday.
“It’s awesome,” said Craig Stan. “Everyone here has put in so much hard work and to finally get to this point in their life it’s absolutely amazing.”
Most of the class called the experience challenging but worth it.
Most said they’ll miss their friends and teachers but are glad to put four years of hard work behind them.
“Graduation is a big deal,” said Amanda Mueller. “I’ve been waiting for this pretty much since I got here four years ago.”
Mueller said completing the course work, military commitment and training have been rigorous and now she’s ready for a little fun. She said she has a visit to Disney World in her future.
“I figure that’s something I really need to do before I’m really an adult,” said Mueller.
Even with the new title of second lieutenant Mueller said she still feels fairly young.
“I just got to drink last year so I’ve got a ways to got before I’m serious as an adult.”
Most of the new second lieutenants will be heading to pilot training.
Class of 2017 appointments are due at the Air Force Academy in about one month.
