Semi and train collide in Campo

The Baca County Sheriff’s Office says a train and a semi truck collided in Campo around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The accident forced the closure of northbound Highway 287 for several hours. It is now open.

State troopers say Ernest Ray Hicks of Lamar was driving the semi-truck. Hicks suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns in the accident. He was flown to University Hospital in Aurora.

The engineer and conductor of the BNSF train were not hurt.

The accident is still under investigation.
