Lightning sparks 2 Fremont County fires

Lightning strikes caused two small wildfires in Fremont County Saturday evening.

Fremont County officials said the fires happened on State Highway 9 about four miles north of U.S. 50 at about 6:30 p.m. Both fires were contained by 11 p.m.

One fire burned about a quarter of an acre northeast of State Highway 9 before firefighters were able to contain it. The other fire burned about one acre southwest of State Highway 9.

Firefighters remained at the scene Sunday morning to clean up both fires and check for hot spots, according to the Fremont County Sheriff”s Office. No one was hurt and no homes were damaged.
