Homemade explosive found in Springs neighborhood

Colorado Springs police are investigating after a homemade explosive device was found in the 600 block of North 24th Street Sunday morning.

Police said they arrived to the scene at about 9:30 a.m. after a homeowner found the device and called them.

Officials said they knocked on neighbors’ doors and asked them to voluntarily evacuate as a precaution.

The Colorado Springs Regional Explosive Unit was called in to assist. Officials said members of the explosives unit detonated the device in a safe environment.

Officials said they are investigating to find out more about who made the device and why it was there. If you have any information, call police at 444-7000.
