WWI veteran awarded medals posthumously

Family of a World War I veteran gathered at Sen. Mark Udall’s office Saturday to receive two medals he earned.

Private Richard Roll served in World War I from 1917 to 1919. He was awarded a Victory Medal and the Purple Heart posthumously. His son was there to receive them.

“It’s the highlight – one of the biggest highlights of my life,” Mors Roll said.

It has been nearly 100 years since Private Roll’s service. But time didn’t matter.

“It’s never too late to acknowledge valor, courage and service,” Udall said after awarding the medals.

Mors Roll said his father was a great father, hard-working, and patriotic.
