Candidate wants Pueblo senator’s seat

Call it a coincidence, or call it perfect timing. Pueblo Republican George Rivera announced he would be running for Senate in 2014. He made the announcement in the midst of an effort to recall Sen.Angela Giron.

Normally, the Downbeat in Pueblo’s south side is filled with blues music. Saturday afternoon, what you heard was George Rivera’s message.

“I’m officially running for Senate,” said Rivera.

He is running in the upcoming election in 2014.

“Sen. Giron is not adequately representing her constituents at this time,” said Rivera.

A group called Pueblo Freedom and Rights is collecting signatures for a recall.

The recall efforts began after Giron voted in favor of the new gun control legislation. The group needs 11,500 signatures by June 10.

“Now with the recall, if there are enough signatures and the recall happens, then my name will be entered into the race,” said Rivera.
