Colorado officials close halfway house in Pueblo

Colorado officials have closed a halfway house in Pueblo, about two months before its contract to house state prisoners was to expire June 30.

The Community Corrections Services Inc. facility is owned by former City Councilman Al Gurule. He says the closure Friday was a mutual decision reached with the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice on Thursday.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports the company had been under scrutiny by the state division after an inspection in August found alleged violations, including improperly supervised inmates.

Those staying at the halfway house are moving to other community correction programs.
