Report: 36 murder cases tied to Colorado parolees

A review of cases by The Denver Post has found that, since 2002, at least 36 Colorado parolees have been convicted or accused of murder while on supervised release from prison.

The newspaper reports the tally includes 30 parolees who were returned to prison on murder charges and five others who are in county jails awaiting trial. One other – Evan Ebel, believed to have killed a delivery driver and the state’s corrections chief – was killed by authorities before he could be charged.

The research focused on nine counties, mainly along the Front Range, and there probably are other parolees facing homicide charges in other parts of Colorado. Some counties don’t post pending charges against inmates online.

The count also doesn’t include parolees suspected of murder but have absconded and aren’t yet in jail.
