The bombings at the Boston Marathon finish line have law enforcement in Colorado Springs on high alert.

Some police officers stayed at work longer on Monday, just in case there was an emergency. Officer in Colorado Springs said they feel for the victims and first responders.

“These events, these explosion type events, they are tragic for the officers too, for the first responders who get there. They see a lot of carnage. They see a lot of people, innocent people, being harmed for whatever reason, and it does take a toll on them mentally,” said Lt. Brian Ritz.

Colorado Springs has about 100 large-scale special events a year. Police look at local special events individually to decide how many officers will be needed.
