North Korea propaganda video targets Colorado Springs

North Korea marks the city of Colorado Springs as a target in its latest propaganda video, but residents said they’re not worried.

Colorado Springs is only one of the cities mentioned in the video, along with Washington DC, Los Angeles, and Honolulu. It includes a map too, marking each city. However, the spot pointing out Colorado Springs is in the wrong place. It’s closer to Louisiana. The mistake is giving Springs residents peace of mind.

“It was interesting to hear that they were 1,000 miles off of the city which is somewhat comforting,” Michaela Marple said. “Just because the concern is, if they were more accurate, then we would have to be more concerned.”

Lack of concern was a common reaction among residents.

“It doesn’t worry me too much,” Sarah Vastine said.

Safety officials have similar viewpoints. A spokesperson with NORAD and the U.S. Northern Command said the video is a propaganda tool, and that they’re not too concerned.

“This is normal business for us. We have the mission to defend North America against any kind of ballistic missile threat,” Lt. Col. Michael Jazdyk said. “We do this normally, every day 24/7. We have to watch. We take this mission seriously, and we are going to continue to do so. And we are going to remain ever vigilant.”
