FAA: 2 killed in Guymon plane crash

Two bodies have been found in the wreckage of a single-engine Mooney plane that was reported overdue on a flight from El Reno, Okla., to Colorado Springs, Colo., according to the FAA.

The crash site was located around 4 p.m. Wednesday, about four miles northwest of Guymon. The plane departed from El Reno sometime Monday morning, and was last seen in the vicinity of Guymon later that day.

The wreckage was mostly consumed by fire, according to authorities. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers told FAA officials that the bodies of at least two people are on board. The wreckage was discovered in a field by the pilot of another aircraft.

According to the FAA, Colorado resident Neil J. Asting was the plane’s owner. Relatives tell KOCO Eyewitness News 5 that Asting, an avid pilot, and his wife Karen Asting were on board. The Colorado couple celebrated Easter in Oklahoma and left Monday to return to Colorado.

The FAA and NTSB will be arriving at the crash site Thursday to investigate.
