Pueblo council considers marijuana moratorium

Marijuana sales in Pueblo may be stopped before they start. City leaders are considering a ban on pot shops. But it could be only temporary.

Pueblo City Council President Steve Nawrocki says he and his fellow council members talked about their options, including a temporary ban, for the first time last night.

“Probably (the) most practical and prudent option is to put a moratorium on any decisions for (marijuana) operations until after the state puts in place how to regulate it,” said Nawrocki.

According to our partners at the Pueblo Chieftain, other council members also liked the moratorium option at Monday’s work session.

Nawrocki says if they decide to ban pot sales even temporarily, it wouldn’t affect a person’s right to possess marijuana.

Since the idea was discussed during a work session, no official votes have been cast.
