1 dead in plane crash south of Denver

One person is confirmed dead in a single-engine plane crash south of Denver.

Douglas County sheriff’s spokeswoman Deborah Sherman says a rancher found a Cherokee Piper PA-28 plane in a cow pasture Sunday. The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane took off Saturday with one person aboard from Sandia Airpark Estates east of Albuquerque and was headed to Centennial Airport south of Denver. It was reported overdue early Sunday.

Sherman said release of the identity of the man killed is pending notification of next of kin.

The plane’s registered owner is from Texas.
