Corrections chief’s widow says husband believed in redemption, would want forgiveness

The wife of Colorado’s slain corrections director says he would want justice to be served in his case but would also want forgiveness.

Lisa Clements spoke Monday at a memorial service for her husband Tom in Colorado Springs.

Joined by her two daughters, she told mourners that her husband lived his life believing in redemption. She said her family is praying for the man who took Tom’s life and will also pray to have forgiveness and peace in their hearts.

Clements’ family says he decided as a teenager to work in corrections after being impacted by visiting his uncle in prison.

He worked to reduce the use of solitary confinement in Colorado after spending three decades working in Missouri corrections.
