Cold weather lingers after powerful Colo. storm

A storm that dumped nearly a foot of snow in the Denver area and more over parts of eastern Colorado has moved east, but lingering cold temperatures could keep the snow from melting for at least a couple of days.

The National Weather Service says highs in the Denver area were expected to reach only the mid-20s Sunday, and another storm system moving in later in the day could bring another couple of inches of snow. Highs in the 30s and 40s were expected Monday and Tuesday before making way for highs in the 50s Wednesday.

Saturday’s storm forced officials to close several highways, including Interstate 25 south of Fort Collins because of multiple accidents and Interstate 70 east of Denver to Kansas because of blizzard conditions. I-70 and I-25 were re-opened by Sunday.
