1 house destroyed, neighboring house damaged in fire

Authorities are investigating what caused two houses to catch fire in Cascade. One house was destroyed, but firefighters were able to salvage the second house.

The fire started Saturday night, shortly before midnight off of Pikes Peak Hwy. By the time firefighters responded, one home was fully engulfed and the home next door had also caught fire.

Mike Gilford, owner of the destroyed house, tells KRDO he was asleep with his wife when they heard the fire alarm go off. Gilford and his wife rushed out of the house so quickly that they did not have time to get their dog. The whereabouts of their dog is unknown, but Gilford believes the dog died in the fire.

No one was injured in the fire.

Gilford believes an electrical outlet sparked the fire. The Cascade Volunteer Fire Department is still investigating the cause.
