Train derailment sparks fires near Sterling

Authorities say an empty coal train derailed and sparked several small grass fires near Sterling in northeastern Colorado.

A Denver television station reports the train derailed at about 8:40 a.m. Saturday. No injuries were reported.

Sterling Fire Department officials say a portion of Highway 138 east of the city was closed because of the derailment, but all of the grass fires have been contained.

No other details were released.

Sterling is about 130 miles northeast of Denver.
