Drive home full of detours in Colorado Springs
Academy Boulevard was closed for a few hours Wednesday because of a winter storm.
Police blocked northbound lanes of Academy at Pikes Peak Avenue around 7 p.m. because drivers had a hard time making it up a steep incline. After snow plows went over the road several times it was reopened around 9 p.m.
It was far from the only problem spot in town.
Drivers hit curbs, light poles and other cars along Lake Avenue and Circle Drive.
Police also reportedly closed parts of Pikes Peak, Platte and 21st Street due to icy roads and multiple pile-ups.
One driver called it one of the worst storms in years based on its impact on traffic.
“The fact that the cars can’t get up the hill on Academy and it’s cold,” said Floyd Preston.
