Bennet: Best shot in 20 years for immigration fix

Senator Michael Bennet says that, for the first time in 20 years, there is hope an immigration overhaul will pass Congress.

Bennet was one of eight bipartisan Senators who released an outline of an immigration bill this week that would allow most illegal immigrants to eventually become citizens. He said there has been a “sea change” nationally that gives him hope it could become law.

Bennet is a Democrat. He warmly praised Republican Senators John McCain and Marco Rubio for working with him on the outline and helping lead their party toward an immigration deal.

Some in the largely-Hispanic crowd were frustrated at the time it might take illegal immigrants to become citizens under the plan. Bennet warned that they would have to compromise to get a law passed.
