Two dead after apparent shooting in Colo. Springs

UPDATE: Police have arrested a person of interest in this shooting. Full story here.

Colorado Springs police are investigating the deaths of two people near the intersection of South Circle Drive and Airport Road on Monday afternoon.

Police received reports of a shooting around noon at a residence in the 200 block of Bassett Road. Police say that when they arrived on scene, they found two people dead.

Rogers Elementary School and Nikola Tesla Education Opportunity Center were locked down as a precaution. Those lockdowns have since been lifted.

The two people killed have not been identified. Police are currently going door-to-door conducting interviews in the area. CSPD says the investigation will be lengthy. Police will not confirm if they have any suspects in custody.

When asked if citizens should be concerned of a shooter at-large, CSPD spokeswoman Barbara Miller said people should be cautious for now.

There is a yellow car in the middle of Bassett Road that police say is part of their investigation. Bassett Road is closed from S. Circle Dr. to Marcy Avenue. South Garo Road is also closed from Circle Dr. to Gomer Avenue.
