Denver politicians bet on the Broncos

Stakes are high for the Broncos and Ravens as they match up for the AFC Divisional playoff game Saturday. State officials in Colorado and Maryland have placed their bets.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake have bet local cuisine on the game.

Rawlings-Blake said Friday if the Ravens lose Saturday’s game, she will send Hancock a platter of broiled crab cakes. She also promised to shine blue and orange light on Baltimore’s Washington Monument. For his part, Hancock promises to send dry aged “cowboy cut” rib eye steaks if the Broncos lose. Hancock also vows to perform the Ray Lewis pre-game dance.

The state governors are also betting local cuisine.

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley will get a dozen Colorado lamb chops if the Ravens win. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper will get 12 Chesapeake Bay crab cakes with a Broncos victory.

The teams match-up Saturday in Denver starting at 2:30 p.m.
