Product made in Colo. Springs wins award at CES

Atmel Corporation was recognized for its innovation in touchscreen technology at the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week.

The company won the 2013 CES Innovations Award in the Embedded Technologies category for Atmel XSense flexible touch sensor.

The product will allow designers to create touchscreen devices in various shapes — breaking away from the traditional flat screen.

XSense will not only enable a new generation of smartphones and tablets, but also extend touch capabilities into a wider array of new consumer and industrial products.

“Atmel’s XSense touch sensor is manufactured in our Colorado Springs facility,” said Mariel van Tatenhove, director of touch materials. “We’ve tailored a portion of our manufacturing facility to produce our XSense touch sensors to enable new form factors for next-generation touchscreen designs.”

Tablet and PC-maker ASUS announced that it will use XSense in a new tablet that will come out in the first quarter of 2013.
