Bones found in Pueblo cemetery are human

A man visiting his mother’s grave in Pueblo came across what appeared to be human remains.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 has confirmed that the bones are, in fact, human.

The bones were found at Roselawn Cemetery.

“We need to step up and respect these remains and make sure that if there is foxes getting into this grave, its taken care of properly,” said Kennedy Pugh, who stumbled across the bones.

Roselawn said it is a wildlife preserve and foxes are allowed back there. The Pueblo County coroner told Roselawn Cemetery to rebury the bones, which it already did.

The grave where the bones were found are in the historical part of the cemetery, where several of the graves are more than 100 years old.

The office of state archaeologist in Denver said it’s not uncommon for animals to dig up old graves. They told KRDO NewsChannel 13, because the bodies were buried in an old caskets, that decay quickly, its easy for gophers or foxes to burrow right through them.

The bones were not found near Pugh’s mother’s gravesite.
