Traffic stop attempt ends in rollover crash
The driver of a vehicle that failed to stop for Colorado Springs police Monday night ended up rolling over near I-25 and Fillmore.
It happened around 11:00 p.m.
Police tell us an officer saw a white station wagon run two red lights at Garden of the Gods Road and I-25. That’s when the officer attempted a traffic stop.
The driver then entered I-25 southbound in the northbound lanes. An officer and the car nearly collided on I-25 near the Fillmore Street bridge. The car driven by the suspect, Michael Joseph Plassmeyer, crashed and rolled over.
Police say Plassmeyer was driving a vehicle stolen last month and was fleeing a bail bond agent when he ran the red lights. CSPD says it should be noted the bail bondsmen were not actively pursuing the driver when the CSPD got involved.
Plassmeyer was wanted on several charges including sexual assault, felony menacing, vehicular eluding and assault.
