Teens admit to making fake bomb threats

El Paso County officials have cleared a neighborhood where a bomb threat was called in Monday morning.

Officials said a homeowner on the 1200 block of Commanchero Drive got a call from a blocked number at about 7 a.m. The caller told the homeowner that he was a police officer and that there was a bomb planted outside the home, investigators said.

Sheriff’s investigators went door-to door evacuating some of the neighbors and a K-9 unit was called in to search the area, officials said.

Sheriff’s spokesman Jeff Kramer said no bomb was found.

Officers were able to track down the phone number for the suspect. The suspect, a 14-year-old , was located at a local high school and arrested. The boy said he and his 19-year-old step-brother made the prank phone calls.

Police said that 114 false calls were made on Monday morning. The step-brother, Ty Graefox Chavez, was also arrested. Both are charged with false reporting of explosives, impersonating an officer and felony menacing.
