Latest flu numbers released for El Paso County
The El Paso County Health Department confirms that there have been 38 cases of the flu in the county that have resulted in hospitalization.
“This year is shaping up to be perhaps a little more serious nation wide and that seems to be the case in Colorado and here in El Paso County,” said Dr. Bill Letson with the Health Department.
The vaccine helps protect against multiple strains of the flu, and the young and old are most at risk for complications from the flu and should get their flu shots if they have not done so yet.
“So far this year the vaccine is pretty well matched to what’s circulating around the country. Go ahead and get your vaccine even though it is late,” said Letson.
Health officials say that besides the flu shot, washing your hands is still one of the best ways to protect against the flu.
