White Christmas for southern Colorado

For the first time in 25 years, many southern Colorado residents woke up to a white Christmas Tuesday.

A blanket of snow covered southern Colorado Monday night. It wasn’t much, but for those who haven’t celebrated a white Christmas in town in a long time, it was enough.

“We are loving it,” Cristine Sutton said. “We went to church last night, we came out, and it was white, and it was beautiful.”

Sutton said she and her family planned to spend Christmas in Buena Vista. On their drive there, they realized their windshield wipers weren’t working. But that didn’t take away their holiday cheer.

“This snow doesn’t bother us a bit,” she said. “We’re used to it.”

The Sutton’s weren’t the only ones taking on a long drive on Christmas. The Highfills drove from Denver to Cripple Creek. They didn’t mind the snow either.

“This is not going to affect us,” George Highfill said. “This is great, this is the way it should be.”
