Suspicious fire at vacant home in southeast Springs

Colorado Springs firefighters are investigating a suspicious fire at a vacant home on 1300 block of Shenandoah Drive.

A neighbor called 911 after noticing smoke coming from the home at about 8:50 Saturday morning.

When fire crews arrived on scene they found fire coming from the back of the home, investigators said.

Officials said the fire posed safety hazard because the home was sealed up, creating potential for an explosion.

Firefighters ventilated the home before they could go inside, according to a Colorado Springs fire department official.

Two firefighters were hurt after slipping on ice, but officials said their injuries were minor.

Crews were able to get the fire out before it did any damage to neighboring homes.

Officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
