Man killed in stolen car crash identified

A man was killed when a stolen car ran a red light crashing into his car and three others. He has been identified as 26-year-old Orlando Medina-Cauich .

The crash happenedat Airport Road and South Academy Boulevard.

Colorado Springs policesay an officer was trying to run the tag on the car because the officer suspected it was stolen. Officers say that’s when thesuspects drove through the red light causing the crash.

Medina-Cauich was driving a red car, and died after getting hit.

Officers say the suspects took off running, but were caught. The three were taken to the hospital just to be checked out.

It’s believed two of the suspects are juveniles.

David Lee drove through the intersection just moments before the crash. He said police closed down the road almost immediately. He was nearby as officers extracted the victim from his car but he looked the other way.

Police say they also found a stolen gun inside the stolen car. They say the gun was taken during a home burglary.

Roads in the area were closed for several hours on Thursday morning. All lanes had reopened as of 12:45 p.m.
