2 killed in crash on I-70 in eastern Colorado

Two people are dead after a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck crashed in eastern Colorado.

The crash happened just before 9 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 70 at Deer Trail, on the plains about 60 miles east of Denver.

State trooper Josh Lewis said the two people killed were in the pickup truck. The truck driver wasn’t injured in the crash, which temporarily shut down the eastbound side of the highway.

Skies were clear at the time but temperatures were below freezing after a snow storm moved across the state on Wednesday. Lewis said investigators are looking at whether ice or other weather-related factors played a role in the crash.

In western Colorado, I-70 westbound is closed at Glenwood Springs after a several crashes there. No injuries were reported.
