Colo. theater shooting suspect asked for notebook

Authorities say that attorneys for the Colorado movie shooting suspect called the University of Colorado four days after the attack and asked the school to return a package that James Holmes had sent to his psychiatrist.

University police chief Douglas Abraham said the call alerted them to the presence of the unopened package in the campus mail room. He made the disclosure Monday in a hearing where defense attorneys were trying to find out who told Fox News that it contained a notebook with writing detailing violent plans.

Abraham and two other law enforcement officials said they didn’t discuss the notebook with the media. They said the package did contain a notebook and burnt U.S. currency.

Holmes is charged with killing 12 people and injuring 70 others in a crowded theater in July.
