Will you get snow this weekend?

The mountains of Colorado will get a decent and MUCH needed snowstorm this weekend as the first storm in what seems like forever moves across the state. Snow will increase over the central and northern mountains through the late morning and become heavy at times during Saturday afternoon. Some areas along and north of I-70 could get around a foot of snow. These areas are shaded in blue on the Snowtracker map. The southwestern mountains (La Garitas and San Juans) could get 4″-8″ in spots and some areas of the Sangre de Cristo and Wet Mountain ranges could get 4″-8″ too.

For the Pikes Peak Region there are a couple about the storm that make it appear it won’t be a big snow maker. Pikes Peak up above 10,000′ or so should end up with 2″-5″ of snow as a quick burst moves south across the region late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. There will be some spots in Teller County, especially along north/east facing slopes that get 1″-4″. It seems like most of Teller County and the Palmer Divide to the north of Colorado Springs should expect two inches or less of snow.

Be alert if you are going to be out driving late Saturday night though. The burst of snow will come with wind gusts on the order of 40mph and if you get caught underneath one, it may be a little scary for 10 or 20 minutes.
