Police arrest two teens for burglary
Police arrested a 13-year-old and 14-year-old on Tuesday after the pair burglarized a home and crashed two stolen cars. The 14-year-old was taken to the hospital with injuries after getting bitten by a police officer’s dog.
The burglarized home’s owner, James, got home early from work to find his home being burglarized. He and a neighbor chased the two boysthrough his backyard. Thetwo boyshopped over James’ 6-foot fence in the backyard andtook off in two stolen vehicles.
One boy crashed the stolen vehicle into a truck traveling south on Hancock Expressway. The crash forced the truck onto the median and the stolen car crashed into a fence. The truck’s passenger went to the hospital.
Police chased both boys on foot and arrested them.
Sergeant Roger Vargason said he’s noticed a trend in recent burglaries. He said he’s seeing more juveniles involved in burglaries and they’re stealing more than just electronics.
“They’re stealing guns as well as electronics, Xboxes, cash, all those things. You need to be aware that they’re stealing guns and they aren’t afraid to use them,” said Vargason.
The homeowner said he’s grateful for watchful neighbors who alerted police of the suspicious boys. Vargason said the neighbors are to thank for the arrest. He said people are hestitant to call police if it’s not an emergency but he said more crimes could be prevented if people call the non-emergency number.
The homeowners got back all their belongings except a pair of Air Jordans. James said he will be investing in a security system to prevent this in the future.
