Mountain Post Santa’s Workshop helps military families in need

Organizers with Mountain Post Santa’s Workshop are prepared to help hundreds of families in need this holiday season.

Hundreds of families applied for the program. Then, based on need, organizers said they picked 447 families to participate in the workshop this year.

There is also currently a wait list. Organizers said those families will be helped with any toys that are left over.

All families who come to the workshop will be allowed to pick out two toys, a book and stocking stuffer for each of their children.

The family will also be allowed to take home a board game and some may even get a new bicycle.

Erin Schoenfeldt is the president of the Mountain Post Santa’s Workshop. She said the need for donations is especially great this year because of the thousands of soldiers who are back home at Fort Carson for Christmas.

Schoenfeldt is a military wife and mother. She said military families often don’t know whether they’ll be together for the next holiday season because of deployments.

That’s why she said it is so important to make sure families have special memories when they are able to spend the holidays together.

Santa’s Workshop has officially applied to be a nonprofit at Fort Carson. This is the first year that the group is using its now-permanent home for the program.
