Hundreds of Ft. Carson soldiers return home

More than 500 Fort Carson soldiers returned home from Afghanistan Monday.

Hundreds awaited their return during two homecoming ceremonies. The first group arrived at 4:30 a.m. and the second at 11:30 a.m.

Kayce Kerby, wife of Spc. Matt Kerby, waited anxiously in the bleachers during the early-morning ceremony. She hadn’t seen her husband in nine months. She said she couldn’t even imagine the moment when she’d finally see him.

“I can’t, I’m so excited,” she said. “I’m just going to run as fast as I can and run into his arms.”

As soon as the soldiers were dismissed, Kerby did exactly what she said she would – she ran into the arms of her husband. The couple will celebrate their first wedding anniversary in less than a month.

“I’m ecstatic,” said Kerby about being home. “I can’t even explain it in words.”

It was all smiles around the auditorium, as couples, fathers and sons and full families reunited.

The soldiers are part of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. They began deploying to Afghanistan in February.
