Missing mountain biker rescued

The Fremont County’s Sheriff’s Office has found a mountain biker after he got lost in the wilderness overnight.

Officials said the Boulder man went missing Friday from the Banks campground area north of Canon City near Shelf Road.The area is popular with rock climbers and mountain bikers.

He had been riding was riding with a friend when the two got separated. When he didn’t return to the campground, the friend called officials.

ATV teams searched miles of trails before finding the biker at 3 a.m. Several miles west of the campground, Sheriff’s officials said.

He was cold and dehydrated, but not injured. Officials said he built two small fires to keep warm and remained on one of the trails once he realized he was lost.
