Roadside animal sales now illegal

El Paso County Commissioner pass a ban on roadside animal sales this week. It is also illegal within Colorado Springs.

The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region said it supports this ban because roadside animal sales pose a safety threat to both animals and the buyers.

“Many times we see people selling these animals. they are not vaccinated. They are sitting out in the hot sun. They have not had any veterinary care. The unsuspecting buyer stops, they pick up an animal. There is no recourse for the sale of that pet it that animal gets sick,” said Jan McHugh-Smith, the president and CEO of the HSPPR.

People can still breed and sell animals within their homes and online. The ban does not affect those sales.
